A Nothing Monday

On this day....nothing happened. Well, actually something did happened. I finished processing my first batch of biodiesel from my latest oil source. It looks great. A lovely honey-color and crystal clear. It's passing through the final filter (purolite) and on it's way to my storage barrel.

It's from a creamy partially hydrogenated soy base, so it will probably start to cloud a little around the freezing mark and below. But, hey, in Vegas that doesn't happen often. Anyway, a little bit of dino-diesel will solve the problem.

Another day closer to retirement....

Little Valentine

A couple of shots of a friend's little daughter for Valentines. She loves the camera, and it loves her....

WOW....great oil

A quick update on the latest WVO (waste veggie oil) from my new Mexican restaurants. I'm just starting to run a 30 gallon batch and needed to titrate the oil to determine how much methoxide (lye & methanol) to add for the conversion process. This oil titrates at 1.2.....the best by far of any oil I've had in the past. It should convert easily with minimal waste.
At left is my processing plant!!!!

Life is good....

BIODIESEL CONTINUES

My oil sources had pretty well dried up and my biodiesel production was almost down to nothing. I have made almost 1,000 gallons to date. I wasn't sure what was going to happen.

But, when it rains...it pours. I was out last weekend passing out some fliers to a few more of the local eaterys. I had no more than gotten home and one of them called for me to start taking their used oil. The local commercial outfit had just sent him a letter notifiying him that it was now going to cost him $39.00/month for them to pick up his used fryer oil. He's just a small bar, but uses about 30 gallons a month. I do it for free, naturally, and am happy for the account. A couple of days later I met with the owner of a local Mexican restaurant (they own two) and I now have that account as well. They use 40-50 gallons per week. Shit!!!! Now what am I going to do with all of this oil?!?! Well, there are a couple of small biodiesel co-ops around town and I guess I'll start donating to their cause with what I can't use.

Persistence is usually rewarded...most of the time.
